Ginger Rogers


Ginger Rogers was an American actress, dancer, and singer. She was known for dance films in which she was partnered with Fred Astaire and she appeared in films and on stage, as well as on radio and television throughout much of the 20th century.

Rogers was born Virginia Katherine McMath on July 16, 1911 in her mothers rented home at 100 Moore Street, Independence, Missouri.1,She was the only living child of William Eddins McMath, an electrical engineer,9,and his wife, Lela Emogene .16 She was of Scottish, Welsh, and English ancestry. Her mother did not want her born in a hospital, having lost a previous child there.11 Her parents had separated before she was born,1, 2,but her grandparents, Walter and Saphrona Owens, lived nearby in Kansas City.3 After unsuccessfully trying to become a family again, McMath kidnapped his daughter twice.7, Rogers said that she never saw her natural born father again.15 Her mother divorced her father soon thereafter.
